Infrastructure Upgrades at Calwell High School

In the 2023/24 budget, the ACT Government announced it is investing more than $800 million on new and upgraded public schools to meet the needs of our growing city. Calwell High School has received funding for school infrastructure upgrades as part of this budget.

The Project

Project Update: December 2023

The new electric heating and cooling system is now in place. Joinery including workstations and sinks have been installed as well as a new fume cabinet that will provide a safe, enclosed, ventilated work area.

This upgrade is on track to be complete in time for Term 1, 2024.

Project Update: October 2023
Wall framing and wall sheeting is coming along with the sub-board installation complete now awaiting enclosure and lighting. Other technical components of the upgrade are progressing well.

Project update: August 2023

Work is taking place at the school to upgrade the science labs and nearby teacher resource area. This upgrade will modernise the space and open it up to create a new flexible work area for students. The new space will be fully glazed allowing for visual observation across classrooms and into the teacher workspace. The outdated timber doors have already been replaced with new glazed aluminium framed doors.

Within this upgraded space, a new 100% electric heating and cooling system will be installed and the old gas system removed. A new ceiling grid will be installed to include LED lighting.

Updates will be provided here on this webpage as they become available.
