Pedagogy

Often called the art and science of teaching, pedagogy is the word that describes all of the teaching that takes place in a classroom. At Calwell High School we take the role of teaching very seriously and all teachers are engaged in ongoing professional discussions regarding the pedagogy that takes place in their classroom. Teachers at Calwell are supported to be innovative in their approach to teaching and learning and to allow every individual in the class to best reach their learning potential.

Since 2013, our hardworking teachers have been engaged in ongoing professional learning to develop a differentiated curriculum at Calwell High School. This approach is centred on knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each student and creating a curriculum that allows every student the opportunity to reach their potential.

A differentiated approach to learning leads to inquiry or project based learning that allows every student to explore the chosen topic as deeply as they can, leading to excellent opportunities for extension and rich, deep learning.Differentiated learning does away with labelling children and instead recognises that all individuals bring different levels of skill and experience to learning at different times. Our skilled teachers are able to construct learning experiences which grant each student with opportunities to shine.
