On Country Learning Program
The On Country Learning Program is designed to build leadership, capacity and connection for students through authentic, place-based learning experiences.
Each term, a selected group of students participates in the program, providing them with the opportunity to develop leadership among their peers and within the broader community. Through participation, students build capacity in decision-making, resilience and self-confidence, while strengthening their connection to Country, community and one another.
The program is delivered primarily at Birrigai and its surrounding areas, where students engage in a range of practical, hands-on learning experiences. These activities focus on teamwork, leadership, cultural understanding, challenge and personal growth. Experiences may include team-building challenges, leadership activities, cultural learning, bush skills, ropes and climbing activities, and extended walks in the local environment.
The program culminates in an overnight walk and camp experience, where students apply the skills, knowledge and leadership qualities they have developed throughout the term in a supportive and meaningful setting.
