WHAT'S HAPPENING?
WEEK 1

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

This week, our school term started with a burst of enthusiasm and determination. It was wonderful to observe our students immersed in their learning, making the most of the support given to them. We are fortunate to have an amazing team of LSAs and Youth Support Workers who, each day, work across our school supporting many students to achieve their social and academic goals.

Our recent Parent-Teacher evenings trialled a combination of both online and face-to-face meetings. Your feedback on what worked best for your family would be greatly appreciated. If you couldn't attend, we're still interested in understanding the reasons why.

In preparation for next Thursday's evening show, our Dance Fest students have been meticulously perfecting their performances, and we extend our best wishes to them for the upcoming week.

A special thank you to the students and families who have embraced Flexible Learning Time including the 20% of students learning from home on Wednesday afternoons. For those seeking additional support in their subjects, students can reach out to UC tutors or our dedicated staff on Wednesday afternoons for academic assistance.

As we embark on this term, we look forward to a series of exciting celebrations and wish our Year 10 students the best for their final weeks of high school.

Have a wonderful spring weekend.

Trish

FACULTY UPDATES

ON COUNTRY LEARNING (OCL)
Our first session for OCL for Term 4 was heralded by spectacular weather and even better company. We spent the morning talking about our expectations, goals and getting to know each other.  After a beautifully cooked lunch (cooked and cleaned by the students), we walked up to windmill hill, collecting sticks along the way.

There we learnt a bit about fires and the crew built their own. We were able to light most fires with a flint and steel which was a big challenge for most! The afternoon was spent cooking damper over our fires and chatting amongst ourselves. a wonderful introduction and first session for our On Country Learning group for Term 4.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING

CONNECTION CLUBS

CAFE CLUB
The first Café Club of the term was very busy as many of the staff indulged in a Week 1 treat. The students however have their system down pat and everyone was served in a speedy fashion. Well Done!

LIBRARY UPDATE

Over the next few weeks, new library books will be available for students. I would encourage students to come into the library, browse and borrow. Students may borrow up to ten books at a time for two weeks.

There are so many studies relating to the improvement of literacy through regular reading. In addition, benefits from reading fiction also include developing empathy, imagination, and critical thinking. This can have a significant impact on academic achievement for students.
The layout of the library was changed earlier in the year and now provides two teaching areas for classes. It is great to see teachers and classes taking advantage of the new spaces.

P&C NEWS

Hello Parents, Carers and Friends

Our P&C is affiliated with the ACT Council of P&C Associations, who provide great support for parents on a range of topics. A particularly good resource is the Council’s website section on “Help for Parents” – it’s really worth a look at https://www.actparents.org.au/index.php/resources-for-parents#health. There is a wide range of helpful topics, with links that you can drill down on to find out more.

P.S. Join us on Saturday 14 October at the school for an excellent Democracy Sausage or two!
