WEEK 9

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

The end of term has raced around very quickly and we are extremely grateful to have been able to complete an uninterrupted term.

This week I enjoyed getting into classes and seeing the amazing skill of our students. In particular, I attended Ms Walsh's Digital Photography class, where students enjoyed exploring the skill of editing photos and embedding them in another location around the world. This 'Fakecation' was completed by the students using the application Photopea.

The results were eye opening in regards to how images can be manipulated and influence the viewer. I look forward to seeing some of these student's work as they embark on careers in the media industry in the not too distant future.

Thanks to the Board and P&C Members that attended our meetings on Thursday evening. It was great to be able to share some of the progress staff and students have made over the past two terms.

We also enjoyed Jersey Day on Friday, where students and staff came dressed in their favourite team colours to raise awareness for the cause of organ donation in our community. There was lots of lime green!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the increasing sunshine!

Steve

CAREERS NEWS

Our ACT Career Tools site now has an active Job Board where we are posting a range of employment opportunities for students.

There are casual/part time jobs, apprenticeships and traineeships and full time jobs for school leavers.  We will soon be posting scholarship opportunities for young people too.  You will find jobs and scholarships under the “Students” tab and the Careers team will provide regular updates to these pages.

Every student at Calwell has access to the many features of Career Tools and an email has been sent to each of them with information on how to get started. The website can be located at https://www.calwellhighcareers.com/ and please don't hesitate to email me at Andrew.rowe@ed.act.edu.au if you have any further questions.

P&C NEWS

Hello Parents, Carers and Friends

At the P&C meeting last night, various external funding opportunities were discussed, as well as how the P&C could broker/facilitate these for the school's benefit. Throughout each year there are programs of ACT Government grants, corporate and individual grants that are available to assist schools. The P&C is working with our school on the best ways to move forward with this. More information to come.
