Congratulations on this life milestone, and thank you to Mr Bradley and the team for their work with the Road Ready program.

It was a pleasure to wrap the term up with our Semester 1 Awards Assemblies recognising great effort and achievement throughout the semester.

We are especially looking forward to next term and the start of our innovative timetable modification in response to the voice of our students. More details will be provided before students return on Monday 17 July.

EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

SHOWCASE
We couldn’t be more proud of our talented students and thankful for staff supporting and fostering their talents.
AWARD ASSEMBLIES
We celebrated the end of semester with our awards assemblies on Thursday 29 June. Students received academic achievement, outstanding effort and merit awards which recognised their hard work throughout the semester. Congratulations to all our winners.

FACULTY UPDATES

DRAMA
Showcase has been a highlight of the Senior Drama Class experience this semester. Weeks of writing and workshopping an original script paid off with their Murder Mystery performance on Wednesday and Thursday of Week 9. Although there were a lot of backstage nerves all the student actors brought energy and laughs to the stage!

Year 7 have finished their Melodrama unit, and many enjoyed playing heroes and villains. Year 8s have finished a unit on Characterisation in which a group of strangers get stuck in a lift together... proving that the best tool to a great performance is not outrageous actions but focus and purpose.

Drama is a wonderful way for students to develop their skills in creative thinking, group work and communication and it's been rewarding to see students' growth in these skills this Semester.
FOOD TECHNOLOGY
Year 7 Food Technology students displayed their creative side in their last practical for the Term by decorating the cupcakes that they made last week. Students came to grips with spatulas and piping bags to apply the colourful icing then added their choice of sparkly confections.
ON COUNTRY LEARNING
On Country students enjoyed sub-zero temperatures during the morning of Thursday 29 June on their overnight hike!
SCIENCE
Calwell High school students enjoyed volunteering in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve on the last day of term. Students helped with the making of burrows for animals, weeding and cleaning the habitat enclosure to make it more comfortable during the winter season.

The students also met a koala at the end of the day. A special thank you to Tomas Rodriguez and Jaswinder Mehar for organising this program.

ACT GOVERNMENT NOTICES
Improving Child, Youth and Family Service

The ACT Government is looking at how the future design of its Child, Youth and Family Services program can best support ACT children, young people and families.

To help do this, we want to hear directly from the community about what is working and what could be improved. Three simple and quick surveys are open now to capture the views of young people, parents and carers and frontline workers.

If you, or someone you know can help us, please head to our Improving child, youth and family services YourSay conversation page and complete one of the surveys. You can also contact us at cyfsp@act.gov.au. Surveys close on the 5 July 2023.
Winter in the City
The Canberra City Centre will be transformed into a magical winter wonderland from 30 June to 16 July.

The festival will feature snow play, toboggan rides and ice-skating, as well as delicious winter treats, live entertainment, and cosy spaces for all ages. Book your tickets now and find more information on the Winter in the city event webpage.
Help Fight the Spread of Illness This Winter
One of the best ways to help protect you and your family this winter is to get the flu vaccine. It’s important to vaccinate your child as they’re at a higher risk of serious complications if they get sick and are more likely to spread it to others.

Help fight the spread of illness this winter by staying home if you’re sick and wash your hands regularly. Please visit ACT Health Influenza (Flu) page for more information.
