LIONS YOUTH HAVEN - THE FARM

Week 2 saw some dreary weather out at the farm but the enthusiasm from the students more than made up for it. I was a little worried that everyone would be wanting to hide away in the Ed Shed and avoid the rain but instead everyone braved it and did an amazing job. I don’t think I can adequately express how impressed I was with them giving everything a go. In the pouring rain, we went down to feed the cows in the back paddock and we even cooked up some of the eggs that we collected from the chickens. We all had well deserved hot milos around the fire to dry off at the end of the day. I’m really looking forward to having them all back next week.

WELLBEING NEWS

The Wellbeing Hub is back up and running for Term 2 with Breakfast Club, Group Programs and targeted one on one support for our amazing students.

We are eagerly preparing some creative stations for Reconciliation Week later this term, as we recognise and consider this year's theme: Be Brave, Make Change!

As always the emphasis for our Wellbeing Team is around Belonging and Connection for all students and staff. Our Connection Clubs are going strong and we invite students to consider which group/s they might like to be a part of. There really is a place for everyone at Calwell High School.

FACULTY UPDATES

ENGLISH
In English this term, we are exploring a range of texts and concepts. Year 9 are studying the treacherous story of Macbeth and engaging with dramatic texts. With a particular focus on morality and temptation, our students have to make choices and examine the causes of human behaviour.

Our Year 10 students are studying a novel based on the concepts of prejudice and racism this term. They are delving into their reading and analysis of To Kill A Mockingbird.

FIRST NATIONS STUDIES
This term our students are studying an exciting array of topics in Humanities and Social Sciences. Our First Nations Studies class have been looking at Indigenous art methods and have begun the process of creating their own weaving masterpieces.
HaSS
In Year 9 HaSS students have been learning about World War I, and how it began. This week students investigated the process of starting a war, including what an official Declaration of War looks like. Students then, using historically accurate information, created their own Declaration of War.
