WEEK 2

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

We have had a focused week of learning, and upon reviewing the subject outlines below, it is evident that this term will entail rigorous learning. This week, teachers have been sharing their welcome emails with families, and soon we will send out the assessment schedule for the semester. This schedule will aid your child in organizing their commitments and study plans.

Flexible Learning Time (FLT) commenced on Wednesday, and it was gratifying to witness numerous students with permission to learn from home. For those students who remained at school, they engaged in focused wellbeing programs with our Youth Workers. Connection Clubs will soon commence during break times, offering various activities, including the popular Climbing Club, which made a return from 2023.

If you haven't already, please return your child's permission notes for the term. This assists our front office in preparing for upcoming school events. Lastly, I want to express gratitude to our students who have been making the right choices regarding their personal devices, refraining from using them during class or break times. We appreciate your child's efforts in collaborating with our staff to facilitate the transition to the no-phones policy in schools.

Have a wonderful sunny weekend.

Trish

INCLUSION COORDINATOR MESSAGE

Dear Calwell High School Community,

I would like to introduce myself as the newly appointed Inclusion Coordinator. My name is Mel Consola, and I am passionate about fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all our students.

As the Inclusion Coordinator, I will be working to ensure that every student, regardless of their unique learning needs, has access to grade-level learning experiences. This year, learning in our LSU classes will be delivered by individual faculties. This new approach aims to provide a curriculum that aligns with grade-level expectations but is also adjusted to accommodate the specific needs of each student.

I encourage parents, guardians, and students to reach out with any questions or concerns regarding our inclusive learning model.  My email address is melanie.consola@ed.act.edu.au

Your feedback is invaluable as we work together to create an environment where every student feels supported and valued.

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

YEAR 7 REACH PROGRAM
As part of our ASPIRE (social and emotional learning) curriculum, our year 7 students will be participating in a REACH workshop on Wednesday 14 February. The REACH program is a social-emotional learning program that will provide our year 7s with some of the tools required in managing their transition into high school.

The following is a summation of the workshop from the reach website:

“Providing safe and supportive spaces for students to discuss and share their experiences, successes and challenges. These workshops aim to improve resilience and self-belief, enhance social and emotional skills and improve connections amongst the peer group. The Diverge and Legacy workshops have a stronger focus towards future thinking and goal setting beyond school.”

if you have any questions about REACH, please contact Tim O’Brien, our year 7 coordinator at tim.o’brien@ed.act.edu.au

We look forward to our year 7s taking part in this wonderful program!
