Teaching & Learning

Calwell High School has teaching teams based around the key learning areas of Mathematics, Science, English, Studies of Society and the Environment (SOSE), Arts, Technology and Physical Education and Health.

Extension courses are offered in Mathematics, English, Science, Studies of Society and the Environment and through elective units such as German. Students are actively encouraged to become involved in a range of national competitions and subject related enrichment activities.

Classes in the core subject areas are streamed from Year 7 to Year 10 and smaller classes provide extra support for students with learning difficulties in these subjects. Streaming allows us to effectively get resources to students while still providing educational challenges.

Our school offers a wide range of subjects including English, Science, Mathematics, Studies of Society and the Environment, Metal and Wood Technology, Food Technology, Textiles and Design, Art, Digital Photography, Ceramics, Computer Aided Drawing, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Set and Prop Design, Computing, Community Partnerships, Indonesian, Music, Band, Dance (for boys and girls), Physical Education, Sport, Media, Drama and QUEST (student leadership and mentoring program).

Virtual Learning Environment – MyClasses – now online @ Calwell High School

MyClasses is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that helps teachers turn the Internet into a platform for effective classroom teaching, rather then simply another source of information.

MyClasses provides a content repository for storing and managing resources sourced from within an education network or from external databases. It also has the powerful feature of allowing teachers to share class material either within a school or within an education network. MyClasses brings your classes and electronic content together.

Students can access MyClasses Intranet from any computer connected to the internet at school or home using their designated username and logon. By week 6 each student will have access to an online presence to each one of their seven classes.

The MyClasses sites will contain the unit outlines, assignments and resource material. The aim of the MyClasses deployment is to supplement the resources for student access and provide an opportunity for online learning.

Parents can access their child’s MyClasses sites using their child’s logon and password.
