Work Experience

This year students will be involved in a number of programs.  All year 10 students should take advantage of the chance to do Work Experience.  This gives them a chance to experience different career paths.  Students can see Ms Tigwell in the
Careers Room to make appointments and discuss their options.  All Year 10 students will have a careers interview at some stage throughout the year.

Year 10 students will be participating in the BEACON pledge later this year, which is a commitment between the school, the student and the community to see each student in employment, training of further education in 2008.

Calwell High School - The First High School in the ACT Beacon Program 2005 and going strong!

The Beacon Foundation is a National not-for-profit organisation, that seeks to influence the attitudes and culture of Australians so that each young person develops an independent will to achieve personal success for themselves and their community.

A key strategy of Beacon is to initiate original and innovative projects that demonstrate solutions to youth unemployment and encourage self-help at the local level.

The Beacon Foundation has established the No Dole Program across Australia . The Beacon philosophy is that while government can provide stimulus to youth employment the corporate world can play a very important role in providing a bright future for the next generation of Australians by participating in schools.

We are pleased that many Canberra businesses have shown their willingness to support our students in mentoring, work experience and workplace visits.
