Anti Smoking Policy
Calwell High School policy conforms to society's expectations that students of high school age may not purchase or consume tobacco products. Further, smoking inside school buildings is specifically prohibited by law.
Calwell High School regularly engages outside agencies to assist educate our students about the dangers of smoking and of the adverse effects of passive smoking on students' health.
The majority of the school community does not smoke and should not have to be subjected to being exposed to the hazards of cigarette smoke.
Students found smoking on the school grounds will have all contraband confiscated, will need to inform parents or carers directly and will have their names recorded in Student Welfare records.
Re-offending students who persistently choose to disobey school rules demonstrate a lack of respect for the school community as a whole and undermine the positive values regarding healthy lifestyle choices that we aim to instil in the school community.
In view of the latter, such students will lose extra- curricula privileges accorded to other students until they have negotiated a means to redress issues of concern with Student Welfare. For instance, a student may agree to attend a school based anti-smoking class.
In the interests of your child's health, we trust that you will support us in this initiative to promote healthy lifestyle choices for all our students.
