Policy Against Bullying

Students and staff at Calwell High School have the right to feel safe at school and to be treated with respect. They are expected to show respect for others. Bullying or harassment is not acceptable.

Being bullied or harassed means that someone is subjected to behaviour that is hurtful, threatening or frightening and this behaviour is repeated over time. Bullying can take many forms:

Physical Bullying: includes pushing, shoving, punching, kicking, poking, tripping people up, gestures or invasions of personal space. It may also take the form of severe physical assault.

Verbal Bullying: includes name-calling, offensive language, putting people down, picking on people because of their race, gender, religious creed, physical appearance or academic ability.

Visual Bullying: includes offensive notes or material, graffiti, damaging other people's possessions such as clothing, school books or school bags.

Victimisation: includes stand-over tactics, picking on others, threats to 'get' people, intimidation, extortion, repeated exclusion or isolation.

Sexual Bullying: includes touching or brushing against another in a sexual way, sexually oriented jokes, drawings of, or writing about someone's body, using rude names or commenting about someone's morals, unwanted invitations of a sexual nature, asking intrusive questions about someone's private life.

Racial Discrimination: of any kind is a form of bullying.   At our school you have the right to tell someone if there is a problem. You may just want to talk it over with someone who will listen to you and help you decide what you would like to do about it. It is your choice. If you talk to Staff about it, it will be taken seriously and dealt with discreetly. Silence may only encourage further bullying or harassment. If you see someone being harassed, tell the bully to stop and/or inform staff. Use the Incident Report Forms anytime to help us help you! These forms are available from the Student Welfare office.
