Student Procedures

Award System

Calwell High School encourages the use of an awards system to reward positive behaviours and hard working students. Classroom teachers are encouraged to give students Merit Certificates for a wide range of activities including participation in events, good deeds and achievement in class. Students are awarded a Year Adviser's Award when they have received five Merit Awards from a range of classes.

The Principal's Award is presented to students who have received three Year Adviser's Awards.

Bicycles

Bicycles should be locked within the fenced bicycle area. Access is available before and after school at specific times.

Canteen Facilities

The canteen at Calwell High School operates five days per week and is dependent upon support for its continued operation. Parents and carers who may be able to assist are encouraged to contact the Canteen Manager on 6205 6894 by 2pm any day, to discuss suitable times for next year.

The canteen strives to provide a varied, healthy menu for students, offering daily specials at very reasonable prices. We encourage families to support this service as it provides valuable extra finances for the school.

Change to Contact Details

If students change address, or if phone numbers of parents or carers change, please contact the Front Office so that our records can be updated. This is very important, particularly in the case of emergencies.

Daily Routine

The school operates on a seven line, ten day cyclic timetable as outlined below. The morning notices sheet will remind you of what day of the cycle it is and the lines which will operate.

In 2008 the daily timetable has changed. There are still five periods (all either of either 55 or 60 minutes' duration) , as shown in the table below. On every second Thursday, there will be an assembly. This may be a school assembly or a year assembly.

First Aid

If a student feels ill or suffers an injury at school then he/she should let the classroom teacher (or the teacher on playground duty) know. The student will then go to the Front Office to receive treatment and a parent or carer will be notified if necessary. Front office staff will escort the student to sick bay if appropriate.

Lateness & Signing Out

Students who are late to school and miss Tutor Group should report to Student Services with a late note.
Students are able to sign out after verification from either the Front Office staff or Student Welfare Office. They will either have a note or contact will be made with a parent or carer.

Lost Property

Students are responsible for their property at school. All items should be labelled clearly. Lost property is handed in to the Front Office. Students may make enquiries at the counter.

School Leavers

All students leaving the school should complete a Clearance Form on which each teacher must record any materials/texts/moneys which are outstanding.

Skateboards, scooters, roller blades

It is preferred that these items are not brought to school. If brought to school they are to be stored in an allocated area before Tutor Group and to be collected only after school. No Skateboards, scooters, roller blades are to be used on school grounds during the day.
