About Calwell High School

Calwell High School: Committed to providing a high quality education to all students.

Calwell High School is dedicated to providing a quality educational curriculum that meets, extends and cares for the needs of individual students. Our goal is to work with students, parents and the wider community, through strong partnerships, to ensure all the young people in our care achieve success and are prepared for further study, training or work.

The school prides itself on ensuring that the academic and social needs of all students are met. Calwell offers a broad academic and extra-curricula programme. The school is committed to restorative practices in student management, developing an inquiry approach to learning amongst all students and ensuring a continual improvement in standards of literacy and numeracy.

Carefully planned activities, caring specialist staff and support from Year 10 QUEST leaders ensure that the transition from primary school to Calwell High School is supportive and that students settle successfully.

Extension courses are offered in Mathematics, English, Science, Studies of Society and the Environment and through elective units such as German. Students are actively encouraged to become involved in a range of national competitions and subject related enrichment activities.

Students interested in beginning or extending their musical abilities will find that the highly regarded Band Programme will enhance and challenge their needs. The school has three bands - beginner, intermediate and senior, all of which are studied as a course.

Dance is offered to all students from year 7 to 10. A specialist boys dance program is proving very successful. Calwell High School provides students with opportunities to perform through Rock Eisteddfod and other public presentations.

Digital Photography, Art, Ceramics, Media, Music and Drama offer exciting and innovative courses for students interested in the Arts. Students can develop their design and technology skills through courses in Computer Aided Drawing, Food Technology, Fashion and Design, Metal and Woodwork.

Students who may be experiencing difficulties with their literacy and numeracy are identified early and have specific individual education plans drawn up to ensure these students reach their potential.

The school has its own community centre where a wide range of community agencies provide students and their families with quality support programs. A Schools as Community worker coordinates this centre.

Student Support Services are extensive, with a team involving three executive teachers, four year advisors, a youth worker and counsellor who work in partnership with students, parents and the wider community, to ensure that all our students have success at school.

Calwell High School is committed to providing for its community a quality education for all students. The school believes that by working with its community it can, in partnership with students and parents, achieve significant outcomes for young people and help prepare them for further study, training or work in a rapidly changing society.
